10 Overlooked Upcoming Games You MUST Consider

These below-the-radar games all deserve your attention.

Acts of Blood
Eksil Team

There were 19,000 games released on Steam alone in 2024, and even if you ignore all the asset flip tosh that slips through the cracks, there are still hundreds, even thousands of quality titles releasing every year that end up being passed over.

Perhaps they released at a bad time, or maybe the dev team lacked the marketing budget to get the right eyes on them. Whatever the reason, it's so easy for even intriguing games to be missed by the masses.

And so in an attempt to avert that fate for 10 upcoming games, here are some wildly overlooked titles that are on the way this year or next.

Each of these games received a showing at the recent Summer Games Fest, though not one of them made quite the splash online that they deserved to. But they're all absolutely worthy of being wishlisted and impatiently anticipated.

From original IP which could very well become surprise Game of the Year contenders to unexpected sequels and spin-offs to games you've never heard of in the first place, you need all of these games on your radar right now...

10. Sword of the Sea

Acts of Blood
Giant Squid

There's been curiously little chatter about the new game from Matt Nava, who served as the creative director on Giant Squid's serene adventure titles Abzu and The Pathless, and was also the art director on Thatgamecompany's masterpiece Journey.

Sword of the Sea is very clearly cut from the same cloth - a minimalist, atmospheric adventure game in which players surf across vast swaths of sand in an attempt to restore the lost ocean.

The art direction looks characteristically stunning, and the score from the team's regular collaborator Austin Wintory sounds fantastic, but what differentiates Sword of the Sea from the team's earlier work is its extreme sports influence,

Nava has been upfront about the fact that the traversal mechanics are inspired by classic snowboarding and skateboarding games, most notably Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, and from the gameplay footage we've seen so far, he absolutely seems to have nailed that same feel.

Sword of the Sea releases on August 19.
