10 Overlooked Video Games We All Know Are True Classics

5. Alice: Madness Returns

Ultimate spider man

What comes to mind when you think of Alice in Wonderland? Cheshire cats, the Mad Hatter, psychological horror? Well, if you didn’t expect the last one, then you haven’t played Alice: Madness Returns.

The sequel to 2000s American McGee’s Alice, takes a rather different take on Lewis Caroll's story.

In this version, you are Alice Lidell, a 19-year-old suffering from the trauma of losing her family in a fire, which she believed she caused. She has recently been discharged from a psychiatric institute and now lives in a home for traumatised children. The only way she can overcome this trauma and learn the truth about what really happened is to once again descend into Wonderland.

There is so much in this dark setting of Wonderland that I could fill a list just over the creepiest bits of it.

To name a few, enemies you will face are a doll with screws through its eyes, an anglerfish with legs and a black blob of pure corruption. That’s without mentioning the horrific different areas you will travel through, and why the Cheshire Cat is covered in blood.

This game has so much dark humour and horrifying art direction that any fan of horror should immediately play it.
