Metal Gear REX is a giant war mech that Snake was ordered to extract from Shadow Moses Island in Metal Gear Solid 1.
Ever since its debut appearance in the original game, Metal Gear fans have been wondering what it would be like to pilot REX. And luckily, Metal Gear Solid 4 gives you this exact opportunity. Not only that, but it also delivers the perfect boss fight along with it to make the occasion all the more special.
In the final act of the game, as Solid Snake tries to escape with REX from Shadow Moses Island, he is confronted by Liquid Snake piloting another Metal Gear, RAY. This prompts a fight of truly epic proportions in which you, the player, finally get to experience what it’s like to fight in the series titular mechs.
The fight with RAY is hard, but REX’s heavy artillery, on top of its size and weight that enable it to raze entire structures, makes you feel completely overpowered even when you’re losing.
The sequence is honestly so good, you can’t help but wonder why Metal Gear doesn’t let you pilot its iconic machines more often.
