10 Phenomenal Games With AWFUL Stories

8. Mirror's Edge

Batman Arkham Knight Story
EA

Here's a question to all those who've played Mirror's Edge - do you even remember the story? There's no doubt you recall the feeling of the high-intense parkour gameplay, the split-second decision-making, and the stunning visual style, but the story? No, probably not.

Mirror's Edge puts you in the very fast shoes of Faith, a young woman living in a dystopian, near-future city controlled by an oppressive governmental regime. As a Runner, her job is to use her athletic skills to parkour around the city, delivering secrets and valuable goods. However, Faith is thrown into a political conspiracy after her sister is framed for the murder of a high-ranking politician.

The central conflict is interesting enough, but the game treats the story like second fiddle to the gameplay. You go from place to place chasing leads, with a couple of plot twists along the way, but it's all unbelievably simple and predictable. In the end, the story is simply a means to take you through all the unique level locations.

Does the story ruin the game? Absolutely not. But there's no denying that it's generic enough to be entirely forgettable.
