10 Pointless Video Game Mechanics Nobody Used

4. Horse Taming - Red Dead Redemption

Putting aside the fact that horse-taming was boring, clunky and pushed to the side by the game itself, it just wasn't worthwhile. Most players developed some form of bond with the horse they had, and with no obvious benefit to rounding up one of your own, they just stuck with the default one. Or bought a new one.

After the mission in which you learnt the skill, it was never used again. Not even the missions bother to touch on it, instead, turning to shooting and the fun elements of the game.

The only time that it was useful was in the DLC, where you could break the horses of the apocalypse. But even then, those were rare encounters and most players would maybe use it once or twice.

I like video games, writing and writing about video games. Expect sarcasm and the dry wit of a Brit. And the occasional rant of a unhappy Scot. You know... the usual.
