1. Grand Theft Auto 3 - Darkel

Another entry from the titans of open-world games, Rockstar's first 3D Grand Theft Auto saw the character of Darkel removed from the crime ridden streets of Liberty City.

Darkel is listed under the manual credits for the game, as well as having his character textures in the game files. His purpose was to provide missions for our antihero Claude, his tasks focusing on causing destruction and anarchy around the city.

Also in the game are a gang of tramp-like characters with molotovs who dwell within the tunnel connecting 8-Ball's bomb shop and a supermarket in Portland View. These characters are thought to have been members of Darkel's following.

Although Rockstar have insisted Darkel was taken out of the game because he "just didn't fit", many believe that he was removed due to the September 11th tragedy, as it was speculated one of his missions would involve blowing up a bus full of school children. Rockstar have denied this however.

Whatever the reason, Darkel is a curious relic of the series who we may never know the true intention behind.
