2. Fallout 3 - Atomic References

Bethesda's post-apocalyptic behemoth, Fallout 3's Japanese version saw significant changes to side quest "The Power of the Atom", as well as the Fat Man nuclear launcher and any other atomic references.

Cut in Japan due to sensitivity towards nuclear devastation and detonation in populated places, this side quest had the option of detonating a dormant nuclear warhead (killing all the people in the town of Megaton in the process) completely removed.

This workaround was achieved by eliminating the character of Mr. Burke, a man who offers a large financial reward for detonating the bomb for his clients, meaning the player can only either disarm the bomb or ignore the quest entirely.

The Fat Man weapon, which launched miniature atomic bombs, also had its name changed to the Nuka Launcher, as the Fat Man was a reference to the nuclear bomb that was used on Nagasaki in the Second World War.

Naturally you can see why Japan would have been eager to shift any focus away from anything related to such a dark moment in the country's history, and remove any and all references to atomic warfare or destruction.
