10 Powerful Video Game Endings That Gave You Chills

10. Journey

journey ending ascension

The ending of Journey flows together almost like a perfectly arranged piece of music. All through the game you've had one mission: climb the imposing mountain in the distance. Obviously that's more difficult than it seems, and towards the end it looks as though all is lost, as your character stumbles through the harsh environment and succumbs to the hostile wastes just before reaching their destination.

But then they're joined by other travellers on this journey, and are imbued with the energy to finish the mission, with the final push becoming this euphoric, effortless climb to the summit that's incredibly stirring.

It makes sense that, considering the entire sequence flows like a melody, the score itself would do good chunk of the heavy lifting though. The way it soars as you finally make it up the mountain, with the orchestra coming to this grandiose, emotional crescendo, epitomises the experience perfectly, and does more for the scene than writing or acting ever could.
