10 Powerful Video Game Items You Ruined By Accident
The happy little accidents that cost you everything!
Obtaining a powerful item is one of the most satisfying things you can experience in a game. It usually takes a great deal of effort to get it, but once you do, it's all worth it, as you're free to do whatever you want with your new and overpowered toy.
Or are you?
Well, in some games, getting your hands on a rare and powerful item is only half the battle. You also need to learn how to obtain it and what to do with it afterwards, as one mistake can ruin or even destroy your prize forever.
The reasons why this happens differ from title to title. Some games fool you into putting a useless upgrade on your weapon with a deceptively appealing description, some sneakily take them away from you after completing a mission, and some feature bugs that suddenly break the weapon's power.
Just as finding strong gear can feel amazing, losing it to random mistakes can feel devastating. For this reason, you might want to check out the items on this list. That way, you'll be ready to preserve them from whatever dangers lurk around the corner.
10. Frying Pan - Fable
Despite its inconspicuous appearance, the Frying Pan from Fable is one of the best weapons for spellcasters in the game, as it comes with the highest number of augment slots, allowing you to customize it with all the powerful upgrades you want.
The way you obtain the pan is by completing a scavenger hunt quest, and unfortunately, the more impatient player might accidentally ruin the pan's potential in the process.
The quest requires your character to follow a chain of six treasure clues in order to find the location of the pan. However, since the location is set, if you have done the quest before (or looked up the location online), you can technically find the pan without using the clues.
Technically being the operative word, because the frying pan you dig up by skipping the quest objectives is a placeholder replica that doesn't come with any of the augments that make the actual pan so powerful.
The real deal appears only if you do the quest properly, so if you thought you could be smart and cheat the system, the system will cheat you right back! No pan for you!
