Enthusiasts of driving games who pre-ordered this game at Walmart received a voucher that could be redeemed in-game to claim a special vehicle.

So far, so good. Special cars are a pretty common bonus for driving games.

Walmart, however, wasn't offering just any car, oh no. They were offering players the legendary Bugatti Veyran supercar, a car that in the real world has a top speed of 407 kmh / 253 mph and sells for a cool $2 million (USD) or so, and, when the game was released in 2011, was the fastest car on Earth.

The use of this car was so overpowered from the start of the game that the developers had to buff other cars obtainable at the same level to give competitors even a slim chance to keep up. Players who bought their pre-orders from other outlets and who received lesser cars (for example, the Audi R8 from Gamestop) were outraged and there was considerable fan backlash.

The people who bought their game at Walmart, however, had a blast wheeling the world's fastest car around the roads and tracks of TDU2.
