9. Gears 5
Along with Halo, Gears Of War has long been on of Xbox’s flagship exclusives. However, also along with Halo, it’s fallen on harder times recently. Fitting, considering Xbox has slipped a decent way behind in the battle to be console king. Will Gears 5 be the game to turn it all around? If you had a magic eight ball, it would probably say ‘ask again later’.
The hype has been a little undercooked so far, and considering it’s a week away from release, that’s not the most promising sign. Of course, hype isn’t always the best indicator.
Anthem was one of the most advertised game this year, and has arguably been its worst. Meanwhile, recent releases Astral Chain and Control have slipped under the radar slightly, yet provide great fun.
The recent confirmation that long time series fan Dave Bautista will be a playable character in Gears 5 has definitely turned things up a few notches too.
On the gameplay front, we haven’t seen anything to suggest it’s much different from 4, apart from Kait Diaz becoming the main focus. Pretty soon, we’ll know for sure how good Gears 5 really is.
