10 Promising Video Game Sequels That Completely Killed Their Franchises

3. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5

It's not like the Pro Skater series was doing so hot before the fifth game, but Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 effectively killed the franchise right there and then.

Considering how universally loved Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 and 3 were, it's kind of spectacular how far the series has fallen in recent times. Going from the best skateboarding franchise to a complete joke has been all the Pro Skater series has been known for as of late.

When it released, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 was heavily criticised for it's downgraded gameplay, poor technical performance and uninteresting mission design. It currently ranks as one of the poorest received games of the current generation, which basically confirms that the series is as good as dead.

Who would have though it could get worse than Tony Hawk: Ride?
