10 Promising Video Game Sequels That Completely Killed Their Franchises

2. Fable 3

The Fable series was once one of the most beloved and interesting franchises that Microsoft had. Following the release of Fable 3, nothing good has ever come out of it since.

That's not to say that Fable 3 was one of the worst games ever or anything like that. It had plenty of good aspects that improved upon aspects of the first two titles. Despite this, Fable 3 also simplified almost every mechanic in the game and turned the iconic morality system of the series into a trivial and obvious set of choices.

Ever since the release of Fable 3, the series has gone downhill completely. All we saw out of franchise before the cancellation of Legends was a couple of spin off titles and a remaster, effectively meaning that Fable 3 meant the death of the franchise.

Even if Fable Legends had seen the light of day, it likely wouldn't have brought the once great series back into the limelight. Fable 2 was - and always will be - the highlight of this quirky British franchise.
