10 PS1 Games That Still Look Good In 2018
3. Wipeout 3 (1999)
Much like R4: Ridge Racer Type 4, the visual simplicity of 1999's Wipeout 3 is what makes it such a fantastic PS1 title. Like F-Zero on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Wipeout 3 doesn't overplay its hand: basic yet beautiful, the game makes up for the lack of detail by delivering a unique sense of speed and finese necessary to all great racing games.
Though certainly a product of its era, developer Psygnosis created an amazingly smooth title that looks leaps and bounds better than games released alongside of it. In 1999, games were almost always pixelated, jagged nightmares, and, though far from the primitive days of early gaming, gamers were still sometimes asked to use their imagination.
Everything in Wipeout 3 is distinct and obvious, and players will never be left questioning where they are going or what might be infront of them. It's rare to find a game as visually crisp as this on the PS1, and it would be a total joy to play through in full HD on an emulator.
