10 PS1 Games That Still Look Good In 2018
2. Legacy Of Kain: Soul Reaver (1999)
Though not obvious from the beginning thanks to the game's downright ugly introductory cutscene, 1999's Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver looks like it may have been an early PlayStation 2 title. Tons of PS1 games looked borderline unfinished because the third dimension was so new in gaming that developers had yet to master it. Soul Reaver, however, appears to have been made by a dev team that had 3d modeling completely figured out.
Running this title on original PlayStation hardware seems like black magic, and hardly anything on the system looked this detailed. The character models are particularly noteworthy, as most of them seem to be as high-res as the console would allow.
The game may suffer from a dark, drab gothic atmosphere, but it isn't difficult to see what the developers were going for. Plus, the whole experience is so crystal clear that it hardly matters.
This is also one of the first games to have the audacity to attempt lip-synced dialogue, a technique which some developers still struggle to pull off. It may be a bit dated, but Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver still looks great overall.
