10 PS1 Games That Still Look Good In 2018
1. Spyro The Dragon (1998)
Who could forget Spyro the Dragon? Sony's flagship mascot created to contend with the likes of Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog, this purple fire-breathing lizard could hardly have picked a better trio of games with which to start out.
It wasn't so much that the PS1's Spyro the Dragon looked particularly realistic or authentic in any way, it was more so that the game's animated, whimsical atmosphere made it appear to be more of a cartoon than a chunky, pixilated late 90's video game. Metal Gears' Solid Snake looks to have been made up of about three polygons, but Spyro is so visually simplistic and caricatured that, by comparison, he looks much better.
The original Spyro title offered a series of colorful, compelling environments that were so visually rich that the digital limitations of the console by which they had been rendered weren't obvious. The game didn't overreach or attempt anything beyond the capabilities of the original PlayStation, and, years later, it's all the more playable for that reason.
A remaster may be in the works, but 1998's PS1 classic Spyro the Dragon is still just as playable in 2018 as it ever was.
