Modern Warfare is still widely considered the best Call of Duty game by franchise fans, the game that set the bar for all future sequels. Bringing the series out of the World War 2 era, it presented new opportunities for fans, backed by an engaging story that’s still fondly remembered to this day.

It was no surprise that Activision rebooted it last year after initially remastering it. Back at the time however, they wanted to cover as many bases as they could for the game. Releasing across the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii, one oft-forgotten port is the Nintendo DS version.

Developed by N-Space, it attempted to retain the mechanics of the console versions but changed the story, focusing on more minor missions that didn’t directly affect the outcome of the war and utilised the unique features offered by the DS.

Designed as a companion to the main game, all three original Modern Warfare titles received a DS version and proved a competent handheld experience. However, the lack of online multiplayer left its lifespan significantly reduced in comparison.
