2. The Callisto Protocol
The Callisto Protocol ends on a cliffhanger where the fate of protagonist Jacob Lee is left uncertain, seemingly setting the stage for a sequel.
Except, more than six months after the main game's release - long after most had moved on from the 10-hour campaign - developer Striking Distance Studios released a DLC, Final Transmission, which tied off Jacob's story.
Final Transmission picks up shortly after the main game, and concludes with the revelation that everything in the DLC was a dying dream experienced by Jacob, who was mortally wounded after helping Dani escape at the end of the main campaign, and is now being kept alive on life support by Mahler.
After Mahler uses Jacob's implant to transmit all of her evidence of the entire incident, Jacob and Mahler both perish when the Black Iron Prison collapses. The End.
That's... certainly more conclusive than the non-ending we got from the main game, even if it naturally left many fans dissatisfied.
But with The Callisto Protocol's disappointing sales, the studio likely had no choice but to abruptly sew things up. Speaking of which...
