10 Real Endings Hidden In DLC

3. Final Fantasy XIII-2

The Callisto Protocol
Square Enix

Players who wanted to see the actual ending to Final Fantasy XIII-2 had to wait five whole months for the release of the Requiem of the Goddess DLC, which effectively serves as the lead-in to the final game in the Final Fantasy XIII series, Lightning Returns.

The main game ends in supremely bleak fashion, with Lightning being petrified on Etro's throne, Serah dying, and the heroes categorically failing.

Requiem of the Goddess follows this up, however, by lending far more context to the tragic events.

We get to see an emotional final interaction between Serah and Lightning, as well as Lightning being petrified in order to preserve the world, leaving her to awaken when she's needed at the start of Lightning Returns.

Given that Requiem of the Goddess can be beaten in under an hour and really does feel like Final Fantasy XIII-2's true ending, it's pretty cheeky that Square Enix carved it out and charged five extra bucks for the pleasure.
