10 REAL Reasons Your Favourite Video Games Never Came Back

6. Perfect Dark: Core - Nowhere Near Perfect

Ask most people what their favourite first person shooter on the N64 is and I guarantee... it'll be GoldenEye. Following closely behind would be Rare's other shooter, Perfect Dark.

A wonderful mix of sci-fi espionage and otherworldly shenanigans, Perfect Dark laid the way for a strong foundation to build a franchise from.

Or so they thought.

Being bought by Microsoft hadn't done Rare any favours, considering the catalogue they left with Nintendo (except for Grabbed by the Ghoulies, that was fun). Then, delaying sequel Perfect Dark: Zero before shifting it to the Xbox 360 didn't help.

As a result, PD:Z didn't perform as well as Rare had hoped, despite scoring highly. It didn't have the same spark as its predecessor, leaving the fate of the series somewhat hanging in the balance.

A sequel was planned under the working title Perfect Dark: Core, with development starting soon after Zero was released.

But as time went on, Core began slipping away from its Perfect Dark identity, morphing into a mech shooter, of all things. Until 2008, that is, when the plug was finally pulled.

I guess all hope of a continuation will be left in the dark.
