10 REAL Reasons Your Favourite Video Games Never Came Back

7. Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem - Silicon Knights Lost Their Mind

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem is one of those games that always gets dumped in the "hidden gem" bracket, alongside Beyond Good & Evil and Deadly Premonition.

The problem with that analogy is sometimes gems get unearthed, copies get cut and they all get to shine. Unfortunately for Eternal Darkness, it got waylaid by some stupid developer decisions and lays buried under many, many rocks.

Silicon Knights, the developer behind this, the underrated Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes remake and the Nordic-inspired Too Human, decided to take on Epic. The lawsuit claimed that the Unreal engine that was licensed out to them wasn't fit for purpose, which is why Too Human sucked (allegedly).

Not taking this lying down, Epic counter-claimed, saying Silicon Knights were aware of what they were getting. This backfired on SK, as it emerged that they'd not been the most honest when it came to using Epic's tool, even developing for SEGA on the sly too.

As you've probably gathered, Silicon Knights lost, and they lost badly. As in, bankruptcy badly.

There was a glimmer of hope with a "spiritual successor" from former team members, but a failed Kickstarter put a stop to that.
