Say what you will about the Fable series (I mean, I'm about to), they were always one thing at their core: fun.

Sure, Peter Molyneux could run for president with the amount of waffle and hot air he puts into his sales pitches, but the [first three] titles had their charm. Each one a decent slice of adventure and world building, lightly coated with morality and consequence, the series could only improve on it as time went on.

After a few misfires with the terrible Kinect-only and middling beat 'em up in Journey and Heroes respectively, hope was tentatively restored with the announcement of Legends in 2013.

It was looking pretty good, too. Oh, but it'll be multiplayer focused. Okay...

And you have limited time to play with certain heroes, unless you buy them.

And it's going "free to play"? Well, we all know what that really means, don't we?

As it was, it somewhat killed the hype over Legends. An open beta in 2016 did little to help, with the cancellation being announced shortly after it closed.

Couldn't have just stuck with the original model, could you...?
