10 Reasons Nintendo Have Us WORRIED

6. Who Will Steer Nintendo Into 2024 And Beyond?

Shigeru Miyamoto

Shigeru Miyamoto is the most recognisable face of Nintendo internationally.

He is now 70 years old, and is heavily involved in both The Super Mario Bros. Movie and oversaw the launch of both Super Nintendo Worlds in the US and Japan. These are mammoth tasks. In 2015, Miyamoto's job title changed to "Creative Fellow," yet he remains heavily involved with the oversight and promotion of Nintendo worldwide.

Elsewhere, Shuntaro Furukawa is the sixth president in Nintendo's 134-year history, taking the post in 2018. He has youth behind him, allowing him to stay in the role for decades. For Westerners though, he doesn't have that instant recognition of development superstars like Masahiro Sakurai or Eiji Aonuma, known for their involvement in Smash Bros. and Zelda.

As the likelihood of Miyamoto's retirement increases, is it time for other well-known faces to front Nintendo? Or should Furukawa pivot and show his producer credentials more publicly, as Saturo Iwata did with his programming skills?

He is loved by many, but Miyamoto deserves a happy retirement!
