10 Reasons Nobody Cares About The Kinect
7. Cutesy Games
As part of the appeal to the casual gamer, Microsoft is also aiming the Kinect towards kids. Games like Kinect Sesame Street TV, Kinect Rush, and Kinectimals are all aimed solely at children. Again, this is not a problem, as children are just as much an important part of the gaming industry as anyone else, and the Kinect offers parents a simple and easy way for children to entertain themselves. They don't have to worry about objectionable content, and can even use it as a learning experience. However, just like with their heavy emphasis on dance and mini-games, Microsoft is also focusing a little too much on the children. When they demonstrated Sesame Street at the press conference during E3, most gamers laughed in confusion. Children and parents are certainly not the demographic to be watching E3, so it is baffling that they would think to even bother. Meanwhile, those who do pay attention to E3 sit there and wait for the pain to end and for Microsoft to start showing interesting titles. It is alienating, and feels like the outside is intruding on our passion. Again, kids deserve to have their own games, but not at the expense of the people who made the industry what it was. Expanding to the casual is completely understandable and acceptable, but they shouldn't loose focus on the core demographic. Hence why gamers have no interest in the Kinect.
