10 Reasons Super Mario World Is The Best 2D Mario Of All Time

2. Bringing More Innovative Levels

Undoubtedly the most important part of any Mario game, Super Mario World's levels are amongst some of the most original and innovative in the series.

The game immediately stands out with its enchanted forests, sunken ships and sky bridge levels that all make their debuts in Super Mario World and, in some cases, have never come back since.

The improved hardware and far smoother controls meant that Nintendo could really assess what a Mario game and its levels were capable of. Yoshi was also obviously a huge game-changer in the way levels were designed, adding in more levels, wider jumps and more enemies for Mario to traverse through.

And those three features are really what combine to help Super Mario World's levels really stand out, especially against those from the games that came before. In the franchise's games before, it wasn't uncommon to run through levels with almost no obstacles or enemies at all, usually because the hardware of the time wasn't able to handle so many chunks or sprites.

Even with the newer games, that are so often far too easy, Mario World's levels stand out for their creativity and perfect blend of difficulty.
