10 Reasons The Division 2 DESTROYS Anthem
3. Side Content Is Surprisingly Fleshed-Out
Live-service games tend to live or die by how engaging their side content is, because of course, the core campaign can't last forever, and will ultimately account for just a small fraction of the time a player spends in the game world (in theory, anyway).
And - shocker - this is another area where Anthem falls painfully flat. The side missions are depressingly generic and repetitive throughout, simply forcing players into the same collect-a-thon, shoot 'em up gameplay loop without much variation at all. It becomes boring incredibly fast.
The Division 2 on the other hand pretty much sets the standard for what similar looter titles should be.
There is so damn much in this world to interact with, from surprisingly meaningful side missions, to bounties, "random" world events (such as preventing assassinations and disrupting propaganda broadcasts), and much, much more.
The Division 2 does a fantastic job maintaining interest all the way to level 30 with its neat suite of peripheral content, while Anthem's extra-curricular material quickly starts to feel like a chore.
