10 Reasons The Witcher 3 Truly Is Game Of The Year 2015
5. The Mythos & World Design
The Witcher 3 certainly isnt the first video game to feature unique and creative worlds full of fantastical characters, creatures, and environments, especially given its genre. However, its mixture of Eastern and Northern European mythology to create a new world all its own distinguishes it from other fantasy games. Given its literary origins, its no surprise that the world of The Witcher 3 is rich, believable, and just as immaculately detailed as other great works of fantasy. It is politically complex, morally ambiguous and extremely dangerous to navigate. The kingdoms, their cultures and their inhabitants all have a history, and the magic - despite its supernatural nature - is presented in a grounded and down-to-earth way. All this comes together so as to feel plausible; something even the best fantasies often fail to achieve. The game is also full of incredibly bizarre and fascinating monsters, most of which are based on real fictional beasts from fairytales told throughout history. The designs of all the creatures are as striking as they are creative; equal parts grotesque and alluring. While many of them strike familiar chords, The Witcher 3 presents them in a way so as to make them fresh.
