10 Reasons The Witcher 3 Truly Is Game Of The Year 2015

4. It's Open To New Players

A game like The Witcher 3, with its intricate lore and large open world, has the potential to be a daunting experience for any newcomers. This is especially true given the fact that it is the third and supposedly final entry in the series. Considering this, you€™d think this game would be the hardest one in the series for a new player to jump into - a la Mass Effect 3 or Metal Gear Solid 4 - but that isn€™t the case at all. In fact, The Witcher 3 is the perfect entry point for new players. It€™s a testament both to the writing and game design that Wild Hunt is able to work both as a conclusion to an ongoing series and a starting point for new players. Other games in the past have attempted to strike this balance, but most never do it quite as well as this. Character relationships are efficiently established, history and backstory is presented organically without being overwhelming, and the story as a whole isn€™t predicated on knowledge of prior games. At the same time, all of this is significantly enhanced if you have played the other titles, and the story works as a satisfying conclusion to Geralt€™s journey. It€™s really hard to imagine anyone, whether they are experienced with the franchise or not, not being satisfied. It just comes down to The Witcher 3 being a good story regardless of which angle you approach it from, and it's a deliberate tactic that€™s made the game a huge critical and financial success.
