10 Reasons To Be Worried About E3 2016's Hottest Video Games
8. Battlefield 1 - The Game's Most Hyped Features Feel Gimmicky
Although Battlefield 4 suffered from some serious server problems that crippled the game at launch and Battlefield Hardline wasn't exactly anything worth writing home about, the franchise has remained remarkably consistent over the years.
Still, it's easy to wax nostalgically about the game's WWII origins when the series felt like something truly special. By taking Battlefield back in time to WWI, developer EA Dice is surely hoping to invoke that special feeling once more.
That's great, but the problem is that we've not yet really seen anything out of the game that suggests this change in setting is being fully utilized. The game's Zeppelins look similar to Battlefront's on-rail, simplified AT-ATs meant largely for spectacle. The weapons sehown so far don't differ too greatly from WWII models in terms of what they contribute.
Meanwhile, trademark WWI elements like chemical warfare, cavalry charges and trench combat feel either simplified or are missing entirely.
Battlefield 1 looks like it just may provide another enjoyable Battlefield experience. It would just be a shame if it doesn't take full advantage of its setting to become something more than that.
