Games Workshop's publishing arm Black Library has been around for over 25 years now. It's been putting out bangers for much of its history and many hobbyists still enjoy the classics like Draco and Master of Mankind between battles. The books give an extra layer of depth to an often combat-focused lore and allows enthusiasts to take a deep dive into the 40K universe.

While many Black Library offerings have leaned on the size of a doorstop, the publisher have continued to push boundaries, producing objectively good literature that stays true to the original goal of expanding the lore. Twitter famous author Nate Crowley was recently recruited to write for Black Library and his novel Severed told the story of a Necron Nemesor and his relationship with his loyal bodyguard/butler. How's that for original?
