7. Consumer Choice

This is one thing the PC has always had. Being able to customise and mod your computer to your own desire and specifications was one of the main reasons to invest in the platform. Although this was also problematic. Jumping in and trying to upgrade your computer without having a fairly decent knowledge of how computers work and what parts compliment one another was daunting at best. Buying a console was the easier option because although you couldn't change the specs, you never had to worry about upgrading the tech. But while this is still true in a sense, it is much less so now. PCs offer great starter packages for all sorts of people that don't require you to get into upgrading if you don't want to. Also another factor, is that the consumer base is changing. The way we buy our products is ever changing and we are becoming a consumer base that want things how we want them, not how they come. Even the way you shop at a grocery store has changed radically in the last few years. Do you want it delivered to your door? Do you want to order online and pick it up? Do you just want to go in and buy it as you see? The 21st century consumer likes flexibility and freedom. The PC is a platform built on those ideals.
