10 Reasons Why We Love DOOM
4. Outlasting The Competition
Remember those times when Doom fell into the chasms of obsolescence? Seems a little hard to imagine now.
During the emergence of the late 90s next-gen consoles, namely the N64 and PS1, Doom struggled to keep up. A foul-mouthed gent named Duke Nukem was already ruling the first person roost. The rather decent Doom 64 had been effortlessly superseded by Turok: Dinosaur Hunter. The majority of horror-hungry players had found sanctuary in the newly birthed Resident Evil phenomenon...
Yet at this current point in time, Doom stands triumphant, and the aforementioned titles ended up hitting major blockades or fell to dust altogether. Even Quake faded into obscurity, and who'd have thought that the mighty Half Life games would find themselves outlasted by that lonesome space marine and his BFG.
The list goes on, but so does time and the balance of power could easily shift once again. Yet right now, Doom stands as a highly tenacious champion of the shoot-em-up world. A mix of conceptually simple and technically intricate renders the latest versions incorruptible gems, which won't go down without a fight.
