There’s no clever way to say it, Survival Mode is a beast. It will drag you in and keep you playing with a hard mix of carrot and stick. The rewards are few but greatly appreciated when they do come.

Fuel for the vital things like your Life Support System and Thermal Protection are rarer than usual and even finding your starship to fix that is a hell of a task. I sunk around five hours into this mode and barely made it off world. But as I said it’s not without its rewards. You will worship every tiny plutonium crystal and you WILL amaze yourself at just how far you will go to survive.

Case in point: I found that I could escape the cold by burrowing into the side of destructible rocks, and it was the happiest I got for about three hours.

As to how much you’ll enjoy the game on this mode if you decide to travel the cosmos depends on whether you like to test yourself. But as a different way to play the game Survival mode is well worth a look.
