10 Reasons You're Wrong About Star Wars Battlefront

6. Vehicle Controls Are Tight & Combat Is Thrilling

I remember in the time leading up to the new Battlefront hearing about how space combat, one of the most popular modes in Battlefront II, would not be featured in the game in favor of a more focused experience. It was another piece of information that seemed to confirm that the Battlefront so many of us loved was gone and being replaced with another standard FPS experience. While this fact is still true, and still a shame, that doesn€™t mean that vehicular combat is gone. Far from it; in fact it is very much a part of the overall experience. Sure, you can€™t fight it out in space, but the game still lets you experience the thrill of piloting an assortment of ground and air based vehicles, and it is really fun. Flying an X-Wing and getting into a dog fight with a TIE fighter never gets old; it's fun, fast, and exciting. It's equally fun to watch these aerial battles play out above you in real time while you struggle to stay alive on the ground. It€™s all scaled appropriately and contributes to the largeness of the entire experience. Controls may take some getting used to, but I got the hang of it pretty quickly and was eventually pulling off some pretty slick moves. Switching it to first-person makes it an even more immersive and challenging experience, and I found myself switching perspectives on the fly. It may not be the best Star Wars based space combat simulator; it€™s no Rogue Squadron, but neither was the original Battlefront. Still, it€™s really engaging, entertaining, and a nice change of pace from the meat of the game.
