10 Recent Failed Video Games That Became Cult Classics
3. Scott Pilgrim Vs The World: The Game (2010/2021)
2010's Scott: Pilgrim vs The World is one of the most celebrated box office bombs in the world of cinema. A huge chunk of the film's $85 million budget was spent on practical and digital effects to produce the striking comic art style that was always going to make the jump over to the gaming world an inevitability for the series.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game was released in August 2010 and is a curious coming together of Bryan Lee O'Malley's universe and the art style of Drawn To Life's Paul Robertson.
Like with the novels and film, the game sees players take control of Scott Pilgrim and his friends as they battle with Ramona Flowers' seven evil exes. The Beat 'em Up title received some solid praise for its art style, however, most reviews upon release were fairly scathing towards the lack of a drop-in mode, online multiplayer, and how grindy the game was.
The game and all of its DLC were delisted in December 2014 after Ubisoft's licence expired. But, after a seven-year absence, the publishers announced that a remastered version of the game would be landing for players in January 2021 with both a digital and hardcopy coming out filled with unique special editions and various other promo pieces.
