1. The Barebones Remasters - Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection
Metal Gear Solid fans already have a pretty dim view of Konami for how dirty they allegedly did franchise creator Hideo Kojima during production of Metal Gear Solid V, but at least the Master Collection remaster project seemed like the publisher would be showing some love and attention to some of their most iconic games, right?
Except, the Master Collection - comprising the mainline Metal Gear games from 1987's Metal Gear to 2004's Metal Gear Solid 3 - was a disappointingly barebones compendium that did little to meaningfully preserve its featured titles.
While few were expecting miracles in the technical department, the fact that none of the games were remastered in 4K, and Metal Gear Solid was offered only in 30fps, left many hugely disappointed. In addition to this, Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 maxed out at 30fps on the Nintendo Switch version.
The anthology also launched with its fair share of bugs, including a laggy pause button and sound issues, enough that some players reported having a superior experience through unofficial emulation.
That's a damning indictment for a remaster anthology marketing itself as the definitive way to play these games. Not quite.
