10 Recent Video Games That Totally Insulted Players
2. Cancelling Hero Mode - Overwatch 2
As recent bag fumbles go, it's tough to top the utter calamity that was Overwatch 2's launch in late 2022.
Though the early player consensus was that the game was a solid successor which nevertheless failed to fully recapture the original's giddy charm, problems arose months after launch as Blizzard began to break some big promises.
Chief among them was the revelation last May that the much ballyhooed PvE Hero Mode - which was set to feature hundreds of replayable co-op missions that would allow players to unlock passive abilities - had been scrapped.
Blizzard brass confirmed that the mode's scope had grown unwieldy, and that they instead opted to focus on the core experience.
Look, plans can change for a multitude of reasons, but considering that Hero Mode had been hyped for literally years prior to Overwatch 2's release, and was a key facet in distinguishing it from its predecessor, it dealt a huge blow to the fanbase's morale.
And player discontent didn't quietly dissipate, as several months later when the game launched on Steam it was review-bombed to dust, where it still sits at "Overwhelmingly Negative" reviews from almost 250,000 players. Yikes.
