10 Ridiculous DLC Extras Video Games Expected You To Pay For

5. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Fancy Horse Armour

You've heard the jokes, seen the memes, and generally ridden the waves of derision aimed at Bethesda for this. Yet it's still worth repeating:

Bethesda charged you some of your own hard earned cash to jazz up your horse in a video game.

Even typing it out sounds daft.

But, there we are. The same Bethesda that are competing with Capcom for the most versions of the same game (so far, Resident Evil 4 is ahead of Skyrim), expected you to buy horse armour.

Of course you didn't have to, and rightfully so, most people scoffed at it.

Now, this was in the early days of the microtransaction craze, to put it lightly, so it was just seen as DLC for derision. Conversely, you could see it as a real sticking point for how insidious the practice of in-game purchases grew to be.

Yet even as a "time capsule" event, it was still ludicrous. Livery, be it for yourself or your equine companion, is and should always be standard fare in something as vast as an RPG.

Weirdly enough, didn't stop a lot of people buying it though. Some people just really wanted to pimp their horse out.
