10 Rumoured Video Games That Could Release In 2023
3. Resident Evil
In December 2022, Capcom filed trademarks for Resident Evil: Director's Cut. This was the name of the rerelease of the original PlayStation title that brought new costumes and remixed item locations (and no, not the version with the weird farty basement music). It's also been the version that Capcom have rereleased the most, adding it to the PlayStation 3 store and recently PS+ Essential.
However, this trademark was filed after the fact, specifically under the code that is used for expanding usage of an existing product. Whilst some outlets were keen to assume it was a sign of another ground-up remake of Resident Evil, why would it use the title Director's Cut?
This is likely to be one of two things, both of which may explain it's absence from PS+ Essential. Either it's getting a multi-format, individual storefront release or Capcom are releasing a classics collection.
Such a thing has been the fantasy of many Resident Evil diehards, a collection that honours the original PlayStation trilogy and makes sure they aren't forgotten by time or overwritten by their remakes. Rumours about such a thing circle like clockwork but a trademark registration is a good sign that something is happening.
Which is good, because if it doesn't then Capcom are simply leaving free money on the table.
