10 Saddest Soulsborne Bosses

6. Yhorm The Giant

dark souls gwyn lord of cinder
FromSoftware

Like the Guardian Ape in Sekiro, Yhorm looks big and mean, but actually has a lot going on under the surface. He's like a swan. A really sad, really pitiful swan.

Yhorm, like most of the old Lords of Cinder, didn't want to link the flame in his world. And who would? By all accounts it's hard, hot and painful. Yet Yhorm did it anyway, to save his people from destruction.

Sounds kind of heartwarming, right? Well, this is a FromSoft game, so the answer is no. Turns out, Yhorm's people hated him, on account of him being a big, scary giant. He only ever had one friend, and this loneliness eventually drove him mad, which is why he isn't in a talking mood when you meet him.

Even sadder, that one friend is Siegward, who can help you in the fight against Yhorm. So instead of a noble knight taking down the evil giant, what you're actually doing is helping one best friend kill another, because he can't bear to watch him suffer any longer.

Oh, and by the way, Yhorm's original boss title was "Yhorm the Lonely Ruler." Just in case the point hadn't been hammered home quite hard enough.
