4. Dogs

There are the original Cerberus in the earlier games and then there Zombie Dogs in the later games. Cerebrus is a BOW - a Doberman infected with the T Virus. They look a little scabby, but unlike their Zombie friends they can movie at an alarmingly fast rate. They can also kill you by biting and they often run rings around you so that it is hard to get a good aim at them. Apparently a bunch of them escaped from the labs at Arklay into the surrounding forest and started feasting on people who unfortunately came their way. This led to a STARS investigation in the forest area in the summer of 1998. The dogs took out a couple of members and the rest find refuge in the mansion thus opening up the story of the very first Resident Evil game. These vicious creatures soon come back to haunt you in another sequence at the beginning of Resident Evil where Jill/Chris is running down a corridor and two of them come bursting out of the windows. That is probably Cerebrus' finest moment. The outdoor scenes in Resident Evil are chock full of the menaces. Zombie Dogs are infected by the T Virus through secondary means such as ingestion of infected material. Like Cerebrus, zombie dogs are extraordinarily vicious, agile and they are hard to kill - constantly circling their prey (i.e. You) and dismissing hand gun shots. Dogs have pretty much been at the heart of Resident Evil since its inception, appearing in most games. Malevolent dogs that make Cujo look like Lassie, they are a terrific monster that inspire mild panic if there are three or four of them on the go at the same time. Whenever you hear their final 'I'm dead squeak' you can relax until the next batch come along.
