10 Scariest Horror Video Games You Might Have Missed
4. Haunting Ground
Haunting Grounds earns a well-deserved spot on this list because of its rarity alone. Original PS2 disc copies are hard to get hold of now. It didn't help that at the time of its launch, critics weren’t bowled over by it, which led to lots of people passing it by.
This title was heavily compared to the Clock Tower series and was considered a spiritual successor to that franchise. While that is considered to be a good thing, Haunting Grounds was deemed too predictable and heavily reliant on horror cliches that had already been done to death.
It told the story of a young woman who was in a car accident and woke up in a mysterious castle. In this remote location, she was stalked by creepy enemies and had to run and hide while finding a way to escape. Its ties to Clock Tower were very obvious with this style of gameplay. However, it found popularity among fans of that hide-and-seek horror niche.
Sadly, due to Haunting Ground's underperformance compared to what was expected, there aren’t many copies in existence. That’s why it’s so rare and often appears on lists of most expensive video games, with discs often selling for hundreds of dollars.
