10 Secret NPCs Hidden In Video Games

3. The Caveman Family - Halo 3

One of the strangest Easter eggs in video game history occurs in Halo 3's second campaign mission, "Sierra 117."

There are three locations on the game map where monkey-like caveman creatures can be observed - in once instance an entire "family" of four creatures huddled together on a rock ledge.

If you're wondering about the owner of their offputtingly human faces, that's actually the mug of Marcus R. Lehto, who at the time was a senior employee at developer Bungie. The visual began as a Photoshop prank circulated internally at the company before being inserted into the game in earnest.

The cavemen aren't interactive nor do they appear to move, but they are technically "characters" in the Halo world, and ones that are easily missed by all but the most attentive of players.
