10 Shocking Incidents Where Video Games Led To Real Life Death
7. Man Plays For 650 Hours Straight Before Dying Of Malnutrition
This one is pretty straightforward, except for elaborating on the ridiculous nature of the circumstances. Courtesy of the Global Times, they note that an unnamed 33 year-old man in China died in 2011 after playing for 27 days straight and subsisting only on instant noodles for the duration of his session. Over the marathon he was reported to have spent around 10,000 Chinese Yuan ($1,519.30), a frankly staggering amount to put into one game by regular standards. The incident took place in an internet cafe, and although there were no details on which game(s) he was playing, the fact that he was holed up in an "unlicensed" outlet means we can only assume the location was not built for extended gaming marathons, even though the man's actions speak for themselves, as he obviously should have sought food and shelter elsewhere
