10 Star Wars Games EA Must Make After Jedi: Fallen Order

6. A GTA-Style Sandbox Game

If you know your TVtropes, you probably know of the phrase "planet of hats", which is a term used to describe entire planets or entire cultures of people in fiction that revolve around only one aspect. Here, a warrior race, there, a culture of artisans, that sort of thing. Where do they get their food? How do their politics work? What if a member of their society DOESN'T want to specialize in baking? If it isn't directly plot relevant, it doesn't matter. You can see the negative undertones this can have.

Star Wars has been guilty of this practically since it began. Coruscant is one giant city, ALL of Tatooine is a desert etc.. So how do you address this problem in a video game? Well, setting it on a single planet and making it one giant sandbox is a good way to start.

Sandbox games are AAA gaming's bread and butter, so EA definitely has the know-how to make it work. Plus, by its very nature, the world this game would be set on would come alive and be presented in a detail that other Star Wars worlds have shamefully neglected to do. Which would make the world builder in all of us very happy if nothing else.

John Tibbetts is a novelist in theory, a Whatculture contributor in practice, and a nerd all around who loves talking about movies, TV, anime, and video games more than he loves breathing. Which might be a problem in the long term, but eh, who can think that far ahead?
