3. Raiders of the Lost Ark (Atari)
Thankfully, recent video game takes on Indiana Jones have actually been pretty decent, but those hoping to get whip-cracking thrills out of 1982's Raiders of the Lost Ark were in for a sore disappointment, as you can ascertain from this above screenshot more than words will ever allow. The idea of exploring caves and getting into crazy adventures as Harrison Ford's wise-cracking hero is an excellent foundation for a video game, one squandered here amid terrible graphics - we're assuming the thing in the middle that looks like a Liquorish allsort is supposed to be Indy - and gameplay mechanics that take far too long to get your head around (and unless you're an astro-physicist, almost definitely require a lengthy read of the manual). Terrible controls do little to help a game that nevertheless, somehow, is not Atari's worst contribution to the video game world (as you'll see soon enough).
