10 Terrible Video Games With Awesome Openings

6. Evil Dead: Hail To The King

Evil Dead is one of the most beloved B-movie horror series of all time so in a way it's surprising that hasn't had more video game adaptations. After its debut on the Commodore, the first proper video game experience from the franchise came rather late in the year 2000.

After eight years, Ash Williams would finally return in a canonical video game sequel. Hail to the King was set after the events of the third film and saw Ash return to the infamous cabin in the woods to face down his nightmares. Naturally, things go awry immediately.

The game’s opening cutscene is kitsch and very of it’s time, being a PlayStation and Dreamcast title, but it's wonderful to hear Bruce Campbell return to the role of Ash. He narrates the story so far which is interspersed with graphical recreations of iconic Evil Dead moments. The POV camera zooming through the woods effect is present and the sequence ends with Ash tooling back up with his trademark chainsaw and “groovy” catchphrase.

The cabin itself is great to be in in its own nostalgic way but as you move Ash around the game the whole thing falls to pieces. This clunky, slow, confusing and incredibly repetitive Resident Evil-like is horribly boring. The opening cutscene is the one true highlight, which is not really a great selling point.
