10 Terrible Video Games With Awesome Openings

4. Musashi: Samurai Legend

Musashi Samurai Legend
Square-Enix

Out of all the games on this list, this one has the best chance of being the most unknown. Whilst its PS1 predecessor, Brave Fencer Musashi, was decently well received, it's this 2005 follow-up that fell totally flat on release.

A two-punch combo of Tetsuya Nomura character designs and Hiroyuki Imaishi as lead animator means that Samurai Legend has an absolutely excellent anime opening. Quite literally, this should be the opening credits to a high-spirited, action-packed television series rather than a game. Players get a brief look at the characters before they’re flying around being chased by robots with machine guns on motorbikes in a stunningly fast and high quality animation.

As Musashi faces-off in a rain-drenched black and white samurai showdown, gamers are sure to be ready to jump into whatever the hell this thing has to offer.

Unfortunately, when the gameplay begins Samurai Legend is slow, far too easy and aesthetically bland. A huge contrast to that opening you just watched that got your blood pumping.

Musashi: Samurai Legend is a weird one indeed as 2000s Square-Enix was a very creative and productive time for the company and it’s hard to not feel like this opening deserved a better game to go with it.
