5. The T-Rex - Dino Crisis

Occasionally, a certain character or creature will have already had the requisite scare-tactic 'footwork' laid down by Hollywood, meaning all that's left on the gaming side is to utilise it effectively.

Case in point: Dino Crisis' whopping great T-Rex. We'd seen him in the promotional materials, we'd feared him on the silver screen in Jurassic Park and we knew he'd be popping bay to say hello at some point in Capcom's prehistoric-themed shooter.

What we didn't assume, though, was that Capcom were going to replicate Resident Evil's 'dog scare' by having the T-Rex's terrifying face come smashing through a window right when you're exploring an otherwise pedestrian office space.

Mr. Rex may look blocky as hell these days, but man if this didn't make you scrabble for a way to shoot back as fast as possible back in 1999.
