10 Things You Never Knew About The Original Legend Of Zelda
1. It Was Robin Williams' Favourite Game
Treasured comedian and Oscar-winning actor, Robin Williams, was a passionate gamer since the 1980s. Shortly after the NES came out, he bought The Legend of Zelda and fell in love with "the exploration of the world and the puzzles" and he adored how "everything could be moved". He found it so addictive, he played it for hours with his wife at the time, Marsha Williams.
Even though Marsha was heavily pregnant at the time, she and Robin struggled to come up with a name for their future child. The more they played the game, the more the pair grew to love the titular character's name and so, called their daughter, Zelda Williams.
People naturally assumed she was named after F. Scott's Fitzgerald's wife, Zelda Fitzgerald, forcing Robin Williams to repeatedly point out she was named after the video game character. Although Zelda Williams was picked on a lot for her obscure name, her father pointed out it would have been way worse if he named her Mario or Luigi!
Robin Williams showcased his love for the franchise by starring with his daughter in the trailer for the rerelease of Ocarina of Time for the 3DS.
